FSU IS Program Competencies

The competencies presented below reflect those that Instructional Systems masters graduates are expected to acquire and demonstrate during the program.  The artifact annotations correlate competencies found below with the actual products. 

Analysis
     Masters graduates are expected to be able to design and develop needs assessment plans or proposals, identify and prioritize performance gaps, and identify the causes of these gaps.  Graduates are able to use appropriate data-gathering techniques to learn about performance gaps and identify, propose, or select solutions appropriate to close this gap.  They can conduct learner analysis and determine the knowledge, skills, and attitudes required to perform a specific job, task, or role.

Design and Development
     Masters graduates are expected to be able to select and apply appropriate design and development models.  Graduates should be prepared to use needs assessment and gap analysis to develop instructional solutions.  Graduate can prepare learning and performance context analysis for specific learning outcomes and prepare clear, measurable objective statements.

Technology, Integration, and Media Applications
     Masters graduates should be able to select and develop instructional materials for specific instructional objectives using a variety of media.  Technology must be effectively used for professional purposes and graduates will maintain knowledge about new technologies and media applications.

Evaluation and Research
     Masters graduates should be able to assess and synthesize data from a variety of sources and conduct formative evaluation of products.  Graduates can also design and implement assessments of human performance and learning, organizational results, and disseminate findings from research and evaluation.

Management and Implementation
     Masters graduates are able to develop project plans and budgets, establish and/or modify project goals, and establish an environment that fosters job satisfaction.  Graduates can also apply principles of performance management to self and staff.

Communication
     Masters graduates should communicate effectively in professional writing, instructional materials, and orally.  They should utilize instructional media and equipment effectively, work effectively with team members, and develop a professional network.  Graduates also demonstrate understanding of a professional code of ethics and establish or implement outreach programs.
